3-4 star hotels, not dives but not expensive either.

Philadelphia - Doubletree on Broad Street. Was there in October. Lovely rooms, great service, nice restaurant and bar. It's right in the heart of downtown, loads of shops, restaurants and theaters right outside, it's a five minute walk from City Hall and about a 15 minutes walk from the historic district where you'll find Indeoendence Hall, the Liberty Bell, Franklin's grave etc, Betsy Ross house etc.

The intercontinental on Michigan ave in Chicago has a lovely Art Deco swimming pool and is very central.

Thanks for the recommendations, I've booked the Doubletree in Philadelphia and Hotel Chicago Downtown in Chicago.

We have booked a heritage property in Philadelphia. Thomas Bond House. A bit more character than Doubletree!
