Am attending DSS wedding next November in China ( just over border with Hong Kong). Will be flying into HK. Been to China before, so don't want another holiday there just yet. DH and I want to spend a couple of weeks after the wedding somewhere quiet, by the beach chilling. I have looked at Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia etc. and the problem is the flights. We want to fly direct from HK to the resort than after 2 weeks home to UK. Any suggestions please?? DH loves diving and snorkelling too - me I am easy ! Thank you xx

Don't understand what the flight issue is that you are trying to resolve. HK is a huge airport and flies to loads of different places?

Penang in Malaysia? Fly back via Doha or KL?

Scallywag1903 · 13/12/2018 13:57

@Alfie190 . Yes I know! I have been on skyscanner looking at destinations - yes they do go to lots of destinations. But I am not familiar with resorts/places and just want a lovely place to go with not too much travelling I suppose!!
@Boopear Malaysia might be an idea?? Do not know anything about the place - but looking now. Thank you x

Penang is a big short haul destination for Hong Kong expats. Lovely place, loads to do and some really decent hotels. Other decent options are Tioman (other side of Malaysia) and Langkawi. Good luck!

Thank you @Boopear! Brilliant

You can certainly fly to Bali (Indonesia) with Cathay Pacific from HK and return to London with them. Bali would have everything you want.

Air Asia flies directly to Krabi from Hongkong. We were there last November and loved it.

sulflower · 13/12/2018 16:45

We are actually looking at Malaysia for the end of next year. Langkawi is top of the list at the moment.

Scallywag1903 · 14/12/2018 15:12

OOh @sulflower. Did you like Krabi??
And @ BubblesBuddy I never thought of Bali....

Diving and snorkelling Samui or Grabi.
Grabi is better in November.
You need to look at the weather to make sure you know when the rainy season is in each place.

Thank you end

Sorry should have written Krabi.
Thais pronounce it Grabi.

keely79 · 14/12/2018 17:09

Krabi is nice - we stayed at the Dusit Thani Krabi which is lovely - large grounds and on the beach but also some really excellent local restaurants just outside.

Bali is a bit of a mixed bag - beaches aren't as beautiful as Thailand but local people and culture are amazing once you get away from the main tourist areas near the airport (which can feel a bit cheap).

sulflower · 14/12/2018 17:18

@Scallywag1903 we loved Krabi, it's beautiful. We stayed at the Dusit Thani too and absolutely loved it, plenty of space and two decent sized pools. We've also been to Bali and although we loved it, it's not as picturesque as Krabi.
