Latvia / Lithuania / Estonia holiday in August

Hi all,

In order to cope with Christmas my thoughts have shifted to summer holidays next year...

I am keen to have a super relaxing beach holiday with pool/beach so DC can swim lots and we can relax. However most places are going to be far too hot for us when we have time off (mid August), and it’s eye wateringly expensive obviously.

DH has suggested the Baltic states - Latvia, Lithuania or Estonia. Has anyone been? Hotels look very reasonable and there are some nice self catering places I have found too so potentially we could do a two centre one week SC one week hotel. I’m comfortable booking things independently so don’t need a package.

Would love to hear any experiences, good or bad, what are the beaches like, what’s the weather like, what’s the food like. Any recommended places to stay/visit.

Thanks Smile

Not been but been to beach in Finland (Oulu) which was beautiful and empty but too cold to swim in summer. Would check out sea temps if you are thinking of swimming in sea or maybe get somewhere with heated pool.

We went there many years ago when backpacking. It was lovely, but boiling hot. I think it might have been a freak heatwave though.

Yes we’ve done this... hired a canpervan. It was amazing - really incredible. Sine fab campsites and beautiful beaches and nature parks but as said, sea is too cold to swim although weather was very good when we went in August x

Just checked and I still have our two week itinerary of campsites, days out etc. There was lots of driving and some of the roads were not great, but it might give you some ideas? DM me if you’d like me to send it to you x

I went in July a couple of years ago. In Estonia we had warm weather, but not hot enough for me to have considered swimming in an unheated pool.

In Lithuania it rained buckets for days on end.

Maybe we were just unlucky

Thanks all, that’s as I suspected on the weather front. Lorelei that sounds like a fantastic trip! If you get a chance it would be fab to see your itinerary. It does look very beautiful. Just a bit concerned about meh weather!

We've been to Parnu ( Estonia) and Saarameaa( sp?) islands in July. Weather was rubbish but the day we left was then hot and sunny for the next month! Was a long drive from Riga to Parnu with literally nothing to do/ nowhere to stop, population density is very low! Beaches are nice and apparently sea is warm enough to swim in when it is sunny. Lots of things to do in Parnu as it's a popular holiday destination for Finns and Estonians

I've been to Riga (Latvia) at New Year and loved it (very clean, lots to do an inexpensive) ...the coastal town of Jurmala which is close by is meant to be really nice although I think it can get a bit windy. Perhaps another place to consider is some of the Polish coastal resorts too - Gdansk.

I’ve sent you a message OP x
