Friend lives in Melbourne. I live in London.... where would be an ideal location to meet half way?

Doesn't this also depend on what you both like doing?
From the viewpoint of ease in getting flights, and ease of getting around in the location you meet in:

Singapore.

Although you will have the slightly longer flight time.
But: no language barrier because English is used everywhere, amazing food, super straightforward and efficient public transport including just hopping onto a train at the airport to get downtown.

Alternatively: Kuala Lumpur - similar advantages to Singapore, but there is the issue of which airline you will be flying to get there (my SIL is from Kuala Lumpur, and refuses to fly Malaysian Airlines any more due to concerns about safety).

Dubai or Abu Dhabi. I've not been to Abu Dhabi, but Dubai was too hot for me, and getting around was more of a hassle than somewhere like Singapore.

Bangkok, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Seoul, Tokyo, also spring to mind as other possibilities which could be fun.

Cape Town?

FelixTitling · 26/11/2018 09:06

We've done Hong Kong, Singapore and San Francisco. All were amazing, and I would do any of them again. But it depends on how much time you're spending, budget and whether there are any kids (and ages).

mrbob · 26/11/2018 09:10

Cape Town will take as long for them to get to as it would to get to the UK just about.
I agree it depends what you fancy doing- Singapore, Dubai, Qatar, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpar, Tokyo

Ooh I was discussing this with my cousin (who lives in Sydney) the other day. How about Hawaii?

TheBitterBoy · 26/11/2018 09:13

Friends of ours did this recently and met in San Francisco. Seemed to work well.

PastaRedWine · 26/11/2018 11:23

It depends what time of year!!

I could recommend Dubai, Singapore, KL, HK... but it does depend which month as to which I'd say 😏

whattheactualfuckery · 26/11/2018 18:34

We thought of Cape Town, but would take her 26 hours!
Going off to research Singapore

Singapore, Thailand, what airlines can you both get that go to th3 same place. What time if gear, for how long. I'm jealous already.

HoleyCoMoley · 26/11/2018 18:37

What time of yearHmm

babbi · 26/11/2018 21:40

Singapore for sure !

whattheactualfuckery · 27/11/2018 06:44

She's just visited uk, so we're looking at next Summer.
Hawaii is 5.5 hour connecting flight from the 11 hour fight to Los Angeles for me, sounds doable

I did the Hawaii trip in the summer - it felt longer than it should! I regularly go to NZ so I though this would feel easier but clearing immigration at LA took us over 3 hours and we nearly missed the connecting flight. Would recommend connecting through Seoul if you go to HNL just to avoid the America system

Another fan of Singapore here. We spent five nights there on the way home to Sydney from Europe last year - family of four with a 19 and 15yo. Everyone absolutely loved it - we have been there a few times since our youngest was three and we have never had a bad time.

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 27/11/2018 07:28

If not Hawaii then how about somewhere like the Caymans or Bahamas? You could fly into TX (IAH in Houston probably your best bet from London) and then connect from there. Your friend could fly into LAX and connect from there.

weewillywinkie · 27/11/2018 07:33

We are based in SG with good mates in the UK. Recently they flew to us to Singapore for a few days then we all flew to Vietnam for. 10 day holiday. Great trip.

Another suggestion is Perth (Australia) and then travel down to the Margaret River region. Wineries, beaches, fantastic part of the world. You can fly direct London to Perth on qantas.

expatmigrant · 27/11/2018 08:36

Have you thought of Shanghai? I use to live there and still love it. My friend from NZ and I meet there every few years.
