Mallorca Virgin

DH is heading off on a well deserved hobby based hol next May. Am biting the bullet and taking DM abroad.......

Am well travelled abut have never hit the Balearics. Menorca out, as no direct flights from local airport and DM does not cope well at Gatwick. So have plumped for Mallorca.

Any recommendations for resort or hotel with a nice flat prom and nearby shops to mooch around? Flat, easy access to the beach would be fab.

Decent budget, planning on HB at a hotel rather than self catering.

Thanks!

Port de Pollensa is my favourite.

flossietoot · 25/11/2018 17:27

Cala Millor is nice too. You can walk for miles. Bit more going on that Peurto Pollenca but both are lovely!

Cheesymonster · 25/11/2018 17:28

Just came on to say exactly the same as Menstruator. It is lovely there, a huge prom called Pine Walk and a beautiful square with loads of restaurants.

Another vote for Port de Pollensa. It’s one of my favourite places. Don’t go half board though - the restaurants are fabulous.

Buddywoo · 25/11/2018 17:41

Either of the above two. Both great, but if I had to choose it would be Pollensa.

port de pollensa

that's where i am going to live when i win the lottery-absolutely beautiful with such a nice vibe. you can get the bus into alcudia too and go up cala st vincente

Peaseblossom22 · 25/11/2018 18:15

I prefer Pollensa to Puertu Pollensa but if you you want the beach definately Peuto Pollensa

No1HolidayPlanner · 25/11/2018 18:46

Another vote for Puerto Pollensa.Smile

ifancyagreencard · 25/11/2018 23:32

Hotels in Puerto Pollensa worth considering are Miramar, Sis Pins and Daina. All 3 are on the front but the Daina has a lovely pool on the sea front.

Mar Senses is a couple of streets back and is adults only.

BitOutOfPractice · 28/11/2018 12:17

Palma itself is lovely. And not to far to transfer from the airport.

granadagirl · 28/11/2018 13:28

Puerto pollensa is about hour in taxi from airport! So could be expensive
Longer if on coach, with drop off at other resorts.

hartof · 28/11/2018 13:42

Cala Millor or Cala Bona are really lovely, Cala Bona felt more old style Spain. But it's about an hour in a taxi from the airport.

ifancyagreencard · 30/11/2018 17:21

Thanks again! I'm pretty happy driving in Europe so will prob grab a hire car at the airport so we can explore the island. DM's not great at walking / public transport but will love exploring by car.

Cala Millor has a relatively small beach and is very built up - if everyone staying in the hotels went to the beach at once, even standing up they wouldn’t fit! Lots of English cafes and bars - we only found one Spanish restaurant on the seafront. if you want a Spanish experience avoid!

flossietoot · 03/12/2018 00:08

Coming to kent- are you sure you are thinking of the same place?? I was there in October half term- the beach wasn’t at all crowded and you can walk for miles. Also didn’t find any British cafes- was mostly catering to scandanavians and Germans!

ComingtoKent · 06/12/2018 17:36

It was definitely Cala Millor. We stayed in the Hippocampo Palace Hotel for a short break in July, so was a busy time of year with the promenade full of people and lots of those family pedal car/bike things. Several English pubs (particularly remember a Liverpool FC bar). It was more Spanish away from the seafront.

We enjoyed our break as we we mainly flopped by the pool, then went wandering in the evening for drinks and dinner. But we ended up in the same restaurant three nights running as the options (on the seafront) were limited.

By the way, if you’re in the market for a penis-shaped bottle opener, you’ll be spoiled for choice in Cala Millor!

I prefer Pollensa to Puerto Pollensa, it’s just so Spanish and beautiful.
You must go to Pollensa on Sunday morning for breakfast in the square and the market. It’s just fabulous.
We went to Soller and Port de Soller one day and I thought they were really lovely too, especially Port de Soller.
