has anyone ever made a claim on their travel insurance?

We are having to make a claim as last year DD (then age 1) was taken to hospital by ambulance with respiratory problems (ambulance called by NHS Direct, not me) and kept in juts for one day but it meant DH and I didn't have our short weekend break in Dubai. Consequently I am trying to claim for the hotel and flights.

I'm just wondering if it is just our insurance company being so awkward and slow or if this is how all insurance companies work?

Does anyone have any experience please?

TIA

i just saw your message and feel sorry for you as no one has replied!!

i have only ever claimed for late arrival, but always had cheque within a week. i insure through the post office - maybe worth remembering for future.

you say this happened last year, i think you need to follow it up and get a little pushy. they may have a time limit to claim and if you're not careful you may not get anything. keep all copies of correspondance, phone call times etc. good luck!

Just got back from hols and had to claim medical expenses back for DD as she got sick.

Am insured with Direct Line - they don't even want to see medical report!!! Claim only £100 but got it no probs...

\They should take 28 days to get back to you. I believe or at least acknowledge your claim.

ammy1, thank you so much for bumping.
Rosa and cc21 - thanks for the replies and cc21, I hope your DD is better now.

Last week I decided enough was enough and wrote an official complaint letter. I've had a reply acknowledging the letter and saying I will have another reply within 28 days.

I will definitely be changing my insurance company once this is sorted.

Thanks again all.
