Would you ever buy an inflatable car seat?

After much travelling carting round bulky car seats am pondering about inventing an inflatable one that you can flat pack? Is there a market for such a thing or should I give up the whole idea now? If you have an idea does anyone know where to go with it? (am hoping this will cover my market research!) Any feedback gratefully received. Thanks!

sounds a great idea.

how solid would it be in case of accident - in case it got punctured and deflated.

I don't think it would pass any safety tests! quinny tried to turn a pushchair seat unit into a car seat so you could have a second stage travel system- but it was doomed from the off!

Good idea but the tests they put them through to meet kite mark standards would instantly pop it and then......... well!!

I would'nt buy one, surely it would pop if involved in an accident (glass, metal or presure could pop it) it could also be afected by heat and may melt if there was a fire in the car (caused by an accident).

been done already

TrinityRhino · 21/06/2007 10:16

how weird is that?

and how can it be safe

Budababe · 21/06/2007 10:21

Seems like a great idea. But weird. But they reckon is as safe as an air-bag.

Not sure I would feel safe tbh.

MrsBadger · 21/06/2007 10:22

safer than nothing IMO in (eg) a taxi abroad

no never. the idea of something that you blow up protecting my child in a crash is one i find bizarre

spudz · 21/06/2007 10:24

Ah well, thanks for all suggestions. I'll have to go back to drawing board and think of something else to make my fortune!

we lived in Germany for a short while when we had DS1....and borrowed a folding/rollup car seat for him...it was quite comfy, presume it conformed to german,( stringent ), safety regs....can't remember the brand though.
