Ascot races - take the kids for a picnic.

We had the most amazing after school trip today, took the kids over to the racecourse. We parked about ten minutes walk away (Kennel Ride) walked through a gate off the A330 then right across the racetrack into the middle of the course, and found a spot right opposite the stadium. The kids ran around on the grass and watched the races ont he tv, and we watched the horses thundering past the winning post - all for free! We were closer than a lot of the paying guests. The boys also loved looking at all the snobby cars.

What a great idea. Pity the traffic is such a nightmare - at least in terms of area between Ascot and Windlesham (where I nanny / babysit )

How did you find the traffic? Did you leave quite late, so avoid the rush?

as long as you go after the races have started it's quiet again. Couple of hours enough for kids anyway. I went after school at 3 and had no problems. Have also drive straight past earlier in the afternoon.
