Flip flops or trainers?

daftasabrush · 20/06/2007 12:09

I am going to florida in two weeks and i can't make my mind up about what to wear on my feet. I have not been long haul for over ten years. Thought I might wear flip flops and take socks in case my feet get cold on the plane (wont wear them together, promise). To all you seasoned travellers, can I have the benefit of your opinion s please?

trainers on feet and flip flops in the luggage, they take less space

Really?, free socks? Fantastic, I love free stuff. Thought flip flops would be good for putting on and off frequently when I go to the loo etc as Im a fidgit. If I wear trainers or any other shoes I will have to take them off when I get on the plane.

why? trainers are comfy. I always travel with trainers. And I flew to San Francisco 2 months ago and wasn't given socks.

MrsBadger · 20/06/2007 12:22

wear the heaviest shoes you're taking

less to pack

take them off and pad round plane in socks

daftasabrush · 20/06/2007 12:29

ok, looks like its trainers then. Thanks for your replies. Now, what to wear..............?

If space in your luggage is an issue then wear the trainers, if not I'd wear the flip flops - much more practical for flying. If I take my shoes off during a long flight my feet swell up and I can't get them back on again and I'm not sure I could bear to go through the US immigration interrogation bare foot

I assume cod must fly business/first to qualify for the free socks

daftasabrush · 20/06/2007 12:35

Space not a huge problem as we are only going for four days. I also heard you have to take off your shoes to go through security. Just thought they would be practical although I think we have a fair bit of walking to do as in America we have to change terminals for an onward flight.

. They used to give sock in economic class as well, but nowadays it's a miracle they don't ask you to get your own drink . Ha! I sound like my mother
comfy trousers, tshirt and a sweatshirt (or cachemere cardi if you feel all posh). It can be hot/cold/hot/cold etc for the whole time.

francagoestohollywood · 20/06/2007 12:38

I absolutely forbid you to wear flip flops while travelling . Leave some space in the luggage for a bit of shopping, the dollar is low

daftasabrush · 20/06/2007 12:40

Ok, although they are nice ones with sparkly bits, not pool side ones.

flip flops and socks.

I once wore knee zipup boots (dont ask me why) and i had to carry them through immigration in the US as i couldnt get them on again....

squidette · 20/06/2007 12:42

Yes - you do have to remove footwear for US anyway. Be sure you can get it back on!

francagoestohollywood · 20/06/2007 12:45

oh well, if they have sparkly bits ... but do leave space in the luggage, I'm still upset I didn't do much shopping when we went to SF.

daftasabrush · 20/06/2007 13:00

DH and I are both taking big suitcases so that we have space to bring stuff back. Its a trip without DC's so no doubt there will be lots of stuff for them.

daftasabrush · 20/06/2007 13:08

where are you going ?

daftasabrush · 20/06/2007 13:51

We are going to Daytona beach. It's for three nights so a long way for a short time but i'm not complaining. There is some sort of car racing event which is part of the prize. (yawn)

Flip flops won't give you adequate support with regards to your feet and are thus very bad to walk around in. Other shoes like trainers are much better.

You would also have to take any item of footwear off when you go through a US security checkpoint.

iota · 20/06/2007 14:16

trainers IMHO

dollyk · 23/06/2007 10:02

I went to florida last august I would say trainers, and wear trainers in the parks to I wore my flip flops walking all day and the pain I had that night was so bad as well as burning my feet .

bewilderbeast · 23/06/2007 10:04

flip flops for a long haul flight trainers will make your feet hot which will make your ankles swell more and you can't just slip them off and wiggle your feet around

hoxtonchick · 23/06/2007 10:07

birkenstocks

Hulababy · 23/06/2007 10:47

In Florida I just wear my Birkinstocks. Too hot for anything else. I got horrid blisters first time when I tried wearing anything more than my Birks.
