Hi,
We are a family of 4 and squashing into a tiny hotel room is not ideal
Can anyone recommend a hotel with interconnecting rooms ?
or if not a 1 bedroom and sitting room type arrangement?
thx

There are some suite based hotels in NYC.

Look at hotel chains like Homewood Suites, Doubletree Suites, Hilton Garden Inn Times Square to name but three (there are others).

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 14/11/2018 09:56

thanks. Have you stayed at any?

I stayed at Affinia Gardens on E 64th St, close to Central Park Zoo. It was a while back but reviews are still largely positive online. Rooms were very big by NYC, we had one room and a kitchenette but it was easily big enough for a family of four.

The Michaelangelo Hotel has suites. We have stayed in one. Sleeps 4. Our friends like The Citadines.

Have a look at hotels in Jersey City, just over the river.
We stayed in the Hyatt house beside the Path station. 2 minutes on the Path to World Trade Centre.

Affinia Dumont in midtown. We had a one bed suite which was huge - sofa bed too but we all (4 of us) slept in the 2x super king beds. Fab picture window view of the Chrysler building. Lots of diners nearby and local restaurants. Hotel will loan you bikes too. We spent a fab afternoon cycling up to and around Central Park.

Also had a kitchenette which was great for takeout dinners.

We stayed in the Kimberley suites hotel. Was just amazing. Totally recommend it for location and comfort

We also stayed in a suite in Affinia Gardens a while ago - it wasn’t in the absolute centre of town, but it was perfectly nice.

AKA Times Square is an aparthotel with apartments with two bedrooms and a large sitting room/kitchen. Also very well located a minute's walk from Times Square.

We stayed at The Royalton last time we were there. I was speaking to them about going with the children and they have interconnecting rooms.

Great location on West 44th and lovely boutique hotel.

The New Yorker has suites that are 1 bedroom & a sitting room with pull out double sofa bed. I stayed there last October. Very reasonably priced, right next to Maddison square garden & if you pay a little extra you can have a view of Empire State Building from your room.

TreaterAnita · 16/11/2018 23:03

We stayed in this place which has suites with 1 bed plus sofa bed in the living room & was a good price. It’s on the upper west side.

We stayed as a family of 6 in the Hilton Homewood Suites in New Jersey. Bus straight to Times Square or ferry over to Manhattan.
Breakfast included and a kitchenette.
We had a room with two queen sized beds and then a living area with sofa bed.

Meesh77 · 16/11/2018 23:11

We had this problem. We booked an apartment in Brooklyn instead!

F1annelsheets · 17/11/2018 07:23

Is renting apartments in Brooklyn deemed to be ok or is that illegal too?

harridan50 · 17/11/2018 07:25

Sofitel just off Times square

EmmaGrundyForPM · 17/11/2018 07:26

How old are your dc? When ours were 6 and 8 we rented a 1 bed suite at Embassy Suites overlooking the Hudson. It was great. The dc shared the sofa bed.

When.they were teens we rented 2 separate rooms near Times Square, I think in a hotel called Candlelight Suites. It was OK, not great..

Marmara NYC was a fantastic apartment which slept 4 with kitchenette:

manhattan.marmaranyc.com
E94th street

Walking distance to Central Park, Guggenheim & The Metropolitan Museum. Close to metro station, Tal’s fantastic bagel shop & Lexington Candy Store Luncheonette.

feltcarrot · 17/11/2018 07:36

We stayed at a Hilton Garden in July with connecting rooms, we had a small double room and the dc had twin queen size beds.

"Is renting apartments in Brooklyn deemed to be ok or is that illegal too?"

Yes short term letting of under 30 days is illegal in Manhattan and its five boroughs. The tenant is not supposed to sublet under the terms of their agreement.
