Any hints and tips for keeping my DD (25 months) occupied in the back of the car on our journey to France?

do you have a tray that fits across the car seat?
This makes a very handy picnic tray, toy table, reading table etc. Cars run particularly well from one side to the other!

I'm sure I've read a few posts on here with tips for surviving long journeys? Have you done any searches?
Variety I suppose is going to be the most important thing. Perhaps keep a few toys hidden from her the week beforo you go and then bring them out on various stages of the journey.
A new book keeps my DS amused for an hour or so.
Have lots of healthy nibbles at hand, grapes, raisins etc.
Be prepared to have to listen to a nursery rhyme tape if thngs get bad!
A childresn walkman with a story tape also works for DS on long journeys so we dont have to listen to Postman Pat over and over again.

Food, nursery rhyme tapes, even story tapes perhaps.

A new toy brought out with a flourish when the whining starts is useful. We did a longish journey with 22 month old dd recently (a very fidgety, active child) and gave her one of those magnetic scribble pad things (like a modern version of an etch-a sketch)when she started to get bored - it was a wonder!
