Couple’s break in August...

Looking for inspiration for a break for myself and DP in August next year. It has to be August as I’m a teacher Angry

We’re lacking in inspiration as we have travelled a bit in our previous relationships and would like to avoid some places to make new memories together. Rather than visiting the ghosts of our past IYSWIM.

So ’out’ are: Sorrento / Amalfi Coast, Rome, Greece, Crete, Cyprus, Barcelona and Costa Dorada area, Malaga area, Benidorm...

We can manage a Mon-Fri when our children are with their other parents and live close to Gatwick but will consider other airports at a push.

Any ideas? Our lives are complicated (unhelpful exes and limited contact arrangements) and we would love a nice holiday together.
Thanks!

what about Maderia?

EasyJet flies Gatwick to Marrakech in under 4 hours. It's a nice escape - not full of Brits and not swarming with young children. It's easy to find a hotel with good access to the city centre and also a large pool and space to sunbathe. Choose a hotel with an indoor pool if you want to escape the mid day sun which would be advisable at that time of year.
Nice is another destination which is good for couples and the flight is just over 2 hours from Gatwick. It has a bit of everything and it's not too hot for exploring, yet it's still perfect for sunbathing. Stay at Hotel Windsor if you want somewhere quiet.

Mallorca or Ibiza? We went late one August and it won't have been overcrowded or expensive because we don't pay expensive flight prices etc.

Both can include beach, city, quiet areas, clubbing, watersports, countryside, whatever you want really. Loads of choice on flights, many airlines fly to Mallorca every day, not sure about Ibiza.

Tuscany/Umbria? Lake Como?

From the areas you've visited on your out list; I would recommend Croatia. The country is beautiful, great weather, tasty food and lots to see/do!

I've been a few times now and would still go back - it's a great, affordable short haul break!

Lyons is a lovely city for a break for a few days and in August the city beach will still be operating. It's quite a compact city with great public transport. The food is superb, lots of galleries etc to visit, maybe take in an opera. Couldn't recommend it enough.

Lyon Blush. Good for days trip too, eg to lovely Annecy, hire a bike, take a trip on the lake.

I can't recommend Valencia enough! Me and dh had a break there and everything from the old town, cafe culture, food, wine, public transport, beach, City of Modern Arts, everything in fact - was great!

Ljubljana and Lake Bled

Thanks all for the suggestions!
Lots there I hadn’t considered- although I’d forgotten I have done Marrakech before Blush. I’ve not really done much of France though other than Paris so that’s a thought.

Croatia is currently a front runner. Split looks lovely and the kind of vibe we like. We need a bit of chill and some things to wander around and look. We like to be by the water. That’s really important to us both.
Food is possibly the main driver- we love to eat! Hence lots of Italy in the past!

We went to halkidiki. Hired a car and stayed in some beautiful places, finishing in Thessaloniki. It was a brilliant week.

Kalkan in south-east Turkey... amazing restaurants/lovely boutique hotels/gorgeous views & boat trips... fly to Dalaman... great shopping/not over-touristy...

Did you already decide? Just did exactly that with boyfriend in August 2018 and went to Gothenburg - BA flights, then stayed in the airport hotel after late arrival, which was lovely with fantastic breakfast. Got the bus to the port and took ferry across to Vrango island (no cars, boaty) for a couple of nights, then came back to Gothenburg for two nights at the Upper House hotel (eyewateringly expensive but everything else was cheap). Sweden is lovely in the summer. Bit pricey for eating out etc but if you are only going for five days it's not so bad (we went for 6 and came back fully relaxed).

Berlin. We go every summer because we love to walk, eat, drink, meet interesting people, explore the history and culture of the city (there's still seems so much to discover on each visit) and it's such a brilliant city - safe, cheap to really enjoy yourself eating out, always so much going on in the summer as there are beach bars set up all along the river, outdoor pools, nearby lakes to swim, outdoor cinemas, markets, beer festival, wonderful beer gardens. We tend to go for a beach holiday in the Easter so it's not too hot so for us a city summer break is perfect because we love to explore places.
