I've done a review for Issymum's website but here's my summary of the Forbury for you lot. I'm not going to link to it, you really don't want to go there imo. If you do don't say I didn't tell you
Great decor
Fab beds
Food fine
But the service was TERRIBLE. For example:
We had to wait for someone to park our car despite having ordered valet parking (no-one at the entrance). Double yellows and traffic wardens meant we couldn't have just left it.
There was no Champagne in room when we got there, although we'd ordered it. They apologised and sent abottle up but it was the wrong bottle. Then they sent another, on the house, fair enough.
The do not disurb switch (which should have made a light flash outside the room) was broken. They gave us a piece of paper saying Do Not Disturb instead. Although we'd already been in bed 5 minutes and been disturbed by room service, which is how we found out the switch didn't work. Sexy. No children to interrupt us but the hotel managed it.
We reported the wonky loo seat but it wasn't fixed. Probably because they didn't think to clean the room: it wasn't done when we went out although we'd removed the typed do not disturb notice on our door. We had to ask them to do it since there was a Champagne bottle, room service snack tray, 2 lots of breakfast things etc etc.
There were no treats in the wardrobes despite a booklet inviting us to help ourselves to a "Spoil her bag: a specially selected products designed to put a smile on any woman's face."
There was no salt or pepper with the cooked breakfast delivered to the room. OK, it came when we asked for it.
We were overcharged by £80 when I asked them to send the bill up to our room so we could express check out. So we had to hang around while they tried to fix it. They still got it wrong.
The damage was £660 and 2 people who still had a lovely time because we were away without children and so we enjoyed ourselves despite The Forbury's best efforts.
The suite was on special offer at first night for £300, second night half price, plus we had some drinks and dinner in the restuarant 1 night (1 bottle Chablis, tuna, pork, still water, 2 side dishes @ £100).
I sent them a polite email conveying my disappointment and they haven't bothered to reply.
Oh, and if all that isn't bad enough, it's in Reading. (sorry to anyone who lives there but as we arrived I said "This hotel had better be fking good, Reading looks horrible" - well, sadly it completely wasn't good as Lola might say)
