Any suggestions? I know the usual chains are there but wondered if anyone could recommend somewhere else....happy to go up Kensington Church St, etc

Ffionas used to be good

KTeePee · 18/06/2007 13:12

Sounds nice but the sort of place you would need to have booked ages in advance?

The Abingdon here , which is just off Ken High Street. Converted from a pub a while ago but feels like a restaurant inside. Haven't been there recently but it used to be my local. You can get a booth for cosy chats.

No I reckon Kensington Place will probably have a table. Try them. I too whooosh have enjoyed many a girly lunch there.

Azure I used to go to a great pub in that area for lunch many moons ago - it may have been that one but then again I think it was further to the west - maybe on King Edwards Sq?

Yes, The Scarsdale is a great pub on Edwardes Square - really nice atmosphere. I have to say that the mention of Ffionas takes me back to many a drunken evening.

KTeePee · 18/06/2007 13:29

What do you think are our chances if we just roll up to one of those on a Saturday lunchtime without having booked?

I would be a little hesitant about Kensington Place on a Saturday, but wouldn't have thought Ffionas or the Abingdon would be a problem. There's always Maggie Jones as well, but it's more old-fashioned in feel and seems more suitable to winter than summer to me.

Kensington Roof Gardens?

Too long since I've eaten in the area, but check out www.toptable.co.uk Have used them lots to find and book places in London...and not yet been disappointed.

Is Sally Clarke's restaurant still on Ken Church street? Yummy last time I was there, but no idea if they're open lunch on Saturday.

Thanks for all the recommendations - we ended going to Kensington Place, no problem getting a table (hadn't booked) and had a good time - apart from the fact that there did not seem to be a non-smoking section and peopke at the table next to ours lit up in between courses - roll on July 1st....

BTW Ffionas appears to only open in the evening.
