Half way holiday Sydney and UK

Hi all,

Looking for recommendations on holiday destinations for a big family meet up in May 2019. Most families travelling from the UK with one couple coming from Sydney. There will be 4 children (at the time of travel the kids will be two just turned 3 year olds and 2 babies who will be 9 months and 10 months).

Looking for somewhere warm with direct flights (at least from the UK as this is the largest party with the kids), Sydney contingency no more than one change.

Will be big family holiday. Looking for safe area with nice beaches (No rainy season, will be traveling in May) but with easy day trip options for local culture etc.

Looking at AirBnB options as well as All Inclusive hotels (for ease with kids and no cooking!) Something nice but not costing the earth as two families on single income while on maternity!

USA is out as one party member is from there.

Has anyone done something similar? Any places anyone has been to and would recommend?

Thanking you!

Probably not the advice you want, but trailfinders are really good for this kind of thing.

You can fly direct to Phuket from both.. go to a nice area / resort and avoid the very big resorts which can be very seedy.. check the rainy season but I think it's June-Oct

Malaysia, Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong.
Oman.
Dubai, Abu Dhabi. Possibly too hot for the little ones, and could well be Ramadan depending on your dates.

Think I'd go to Thailand, on one of the islands like Koh Samui.
Oman would also be worth investigating.

Half way wouldn't be the US anyway, unless on West Coast.

How about one of the resorts in somewhere like Vietnam or Thai islands? Bali even, although that is closer to Aus so not strictly meeting in the middle!

Secret Escapes often have some good deals available for some of the higher end / all inclusive resorts.

Malaysia. Best family holiday we ever had!

South Africa - Durban would be warm.

BeanBagLady · 22/11/2018 09:00

Penang, Malaysia?

BubblesBuddy · 22/11/2018 20:48

I’m not sure you can fly direct from Sydney to South Africa. I would look at where the airlines stop when doing Sydney to London and go from there.

beingsunny · 22/11/2018 21:03

You can fly direct from sydney to Johannesburg, from memory it's about 15 hours and only with quantas.

Personally I'd go to Thailand, Jetstar do reasonable flights to Phuket, it's easy and family friendly...

We used t live in Sydney, one year we met up when they family on west coast USA. A lot of British I knew out there would meet up in Singapore.

Another vote for Singapore from me. Beach on Sentosa, if you don’t mind a view of big ships at anchor.

Tons of shopping, a vast mix of cultural and historical stuff. The night safari was excellent.

Good weather. All big malls have AC. The transit system is great.
