Croatia - base for activity holiday

I've heard good things about Croatia for kayaking/hiking/rafting/cycling/snorkelling etc
Where would be the best place to base ourselves?
DC are 12 and 14.
Want a peaceful base with easy access to pool or beach from where we can drive to activities on about half the days.

Any suggestions?

We recently stayed in the Rixos hotel in Dubrovnik which has a pool and other amenities. I would recommend looking for an air bnb/apartment though, there are loads of places you can go swim in the sea, including some bars cut into the rock, through the walls of the old town. Did some sea kayaking and really wished we had booked some scuba as the sea is so rocky the visibility is amazing but we hadn't considered it as more than a city break and by the time we realised how good it would be, it was too late due to flight times.
