An Airbnb is going to be more reasonable in terms of the amount of space you’ll get.

Hotel St James, just off time square. Clean and simple and cheap! We paid £750 each for flights and hotel combined for a full week

Why not do a flight and hotel package? We have always saved by doing this. I cross reference the hotels with reviews on the hotel booking web sites. I’m not sure all airlines do this but often the cost of a more expensive and convenient flight is offset by a cheaper deal on the hotel. Booking.com allows you to search hotels by value and rating combined which is useful. You may find apartment hotels work for you as you are 5.

The San Carlos Hotel is worth a look and the TRYP Times Square. Below that price point you are looking at hostels with low satisfaction ratings.

Radio City apts are meant to be great but I don't know the price

We had a gorgeous suite at the Roger Smith hotel. It was perfect. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle but close to everything (near Times Square and grand central station.

Seconding Hotel St James, amazing location!! And as previously said clean and cheap and next door to somewhere that does cheap breakfast and coffee. Went with my sister and our room was huge x

We stayed at the excelsior, just off Central Park. We thought it was perfect. Very old style glamorous, near enough to everything, and the upper west side is a lovely little area for an evening out.

There are some odd reviews that state homeless folk are accommodated in the hotel, baffling as we didn’t see a single sign of any such arrangement. Not sure if perhaps it happens in the winter? We went at the same time you are planning to. Regardless, I wouldn’t let it put you off.
