Would like to do a road trip across Norway - not too rushed but have 2/3 centres is that's all we could manage in a week
Has anyone done this ?

No but sounds great! Apologies if you already know this but come prepared to spend - it is hideously expensive! We had a week in Bergen in August a couple of years back - the hotels were ridiculous but the Bergen tourist website had links to apartments which were about 1/2 the price and we had a brilliant apartment in old Bergen so perhaps other cities websites would have similar links? It did rain heavily the whole time we were there with highs of 12 degrees - it was beautiful though!

We are planning to hire a car from Oslo to Andalsnes to Bergen and flying off from Oslo
Let's see.. we have been to Iceland so know how expensive it can be. We are planning to stay in self catering apartments ( prefer that anyway) and pack picnic lunches and take snacks for the trip.

What about doing that amazing train journey between Bergen & Oslo instead? I can’t remember what it’s called but it’s in this months lonely planet magazine if the most scenic train journeys in the world

ProfessorLayton1 · 26/10/2018 21:34

Part of the plan is to drop the car in Bergen and get the train in the last leg of the journey..

We drove 7 hours north from Bergen for a wedding once. It was stunning. Lots of ferries and tunnels involved.

Take picnics for traveling as there weren't many cafes/service stations.

If sc check whether bed linen is included or if you need to pay extra.

We did similar this year but used train and boat travel. We had 9 days for 3 centres and did Airbnb.

ProfessorLayton1 · 27/10/2018 08:10

Parrotonmyshoulder- please can you give some details, pm me if prefer that..

We are flying into Stockholm for 2 weeks next summer and also thinking about doing Oslo to Bergen route, found some good things to stop at on the way. Not booked hotels yet due to Brexit. Did have a quick look at Bergen on Booking.com, ticked option for swimming pool and 2 hotels came up, an airport one and one that was about £2,000 a night. 😱 Looked lovely but we won't be staying there.

We are now flying into Stockholm and out of Oslo and also going over towards Bergen and back. Novosol has some great self catering places. We are hiring a car in Sweden returning it in Oslo.
