UK-Aus, where to holiday on way?

DH and I are going to a family wedding first week of Sept 2019 in Oz. We're thinking sod it lets do a 3-week trip and stop somewhere either on the way or on the way back and make a sun holiday out of it to break up the journey. Any suggestions? Son and daughter in law may be with us, have voiced trying to avoid Zika countries (want to be trying for a baby or pregnant by then) however looking at the latest Zika map it seems nearly everywhere 'beachy' would be a risk. This isn't a huge deal though and we're all in agreement we may not even be travelling as a group.

We've done Thailand and New Zealand.

Thanks!

Indonesia should have good weather in Sept. Plenty of islands with great beaches! Lombok, Gili Islands, Flores, Java, Bali... or Borneo?

Hong Kong is great if you're a fan of cities.

When in sept? The rugby World Cup is on in Japan end of Sept! Would be amazing!

I might stop off in Hong Kong, mainly because it’s so different.

Or if you want a beach, there’s plenty in Australia that will be hot in September. The Gold Coast for example. I would stay put for a decent holiday in Australia. Just going to one area for a wedding seems a waste. Australia is soooo hot in the summer now it’s best to go in Spring or Autumn. Three weeks in Oz makes way more sense. No Zika either!

Yes I would just do the 3 weeks in oz with a night stop off somewhere like Kuala Lumpur either side if you really wanted to break it up a little. Personally I prefer to just get the journey over and done with all in one though as you feel the jet lag even if only going say Aus-Malaysia. We did 10 days in each a couple of years ago and still took a day or so to recover once arriving from Aus-KL.

We did Singapore on the way out, Bali on the way back. Both great in different ways.
