Best place to base ourselves for 5 nights in New York

Never been and looking at staying next year. 2 adults and an 11 year old. Can someone give me a good location and i can look at accommodation. Thanks.

What time of year?.

Stay in midtown Manhattan and look at hotel accommodation. Suite based hotels like the Staybridge suites are worth looking at. Avoid the likes of Airbnb and any apartment rental sites because such short term listings are illegal in NYC and their five boroughs.

We stayed at Fifty Hotel and Suites on E50th between 3rd and Lexington. It was spot-on, and made it easy to walk places if we wanted. Our kids were 9 and 11 at the time and we managed walks to Times Square etc.
For a family, we found that a combination of Uber and Yellow Cabs was the cheapest way to get around. The underground is expensive comparatively.
