Any advice? I’m going to Australia for 2 weeks in February , mostly to visit family , but I will have 2-3 days and I would like to go to the Great Barrier Reef ...

Any advice about best places to go? I’m planing to fly from Brisbane

If you want to see the real barrier reef you need to go on a small and private trip to somewhere like Lizzard Island. If you go on one of the mass produced trips by the likes of captain cook, they just talks you to a pod that multiple people visit every day. The marine life is all but dead and the trip is a waste of time. The public have destroyed it. If you want to see the real thing don’t do the mass produced trip.

Not a great time of year to visit FNQ to be honest, actually I hated February when I lived in Australia.

I usually stayed in Port Douglas when I was visiting GBR, it is nicer than Cairns but not particularly better or worse for accessing trips to the reef.

I have done various trips and have never been to a “pod”. If you have a couple of grand to spend a night, then Lizard Island will be amazing.

Port Douglas is stunning. Cairns is a bit grubby now. February is traditionally the wet season, but still should be lovely.
