MOSQUITO REPELLENT (and plug-ins from Boots for overnight, and antihisan for if you get stung)
plug adaptors (for your hairdryer etc.)
money belt or other safe bag
aftersun lotion
camera & film (or get a disposable - an underwater one! - at the airport)
sunglasses

tickets?

tammybear · 26/08/2004 11:59

tickets and plug adapters have been taken care of, im a bit worried about the flight as i havent flown much

Small first aid kit (painkillers for e.g.).

For flight, magazine/book to read. Pack some undies and basic toiletries in hand luggage (i'm an eternal optimist!).

Have a great time!

joanneg · 26/08/2004 12:06

Tammy - the only additional thing I can think of is copy of travel insurance?

21stcenturygirl · 26/08/2004 12:12

condoms!

Mum2girls · 26/08/2004 12:15

I'm sooo envious!

Contact lenses/specs?
Any medication (pill etc.)
Beach/pool towel

wild · 26/08/2004 12:35

address book, for all the postcards you will write and not send if you're like me. sunglasses.

LD · 26/08/2004 12:41

Thanks tammy, I have just printed off your list as going to Crete too in a months time for a week, so it will be very helpful. Have a nice Holiday

wild · 26/08/2004 12:42

tammybear · 26/08/2004 12:44

are u ld? which part you going? im off to stalis. never been to crete before so i dont know what to expect.

TB - Crete is beautiful - it's got gorgeous beaches and plenty of sightseing if you're that way inclined. If I remember rightly (and it years since I went) it has the ancient palace of Knossos and a fantastic gorge you can go walking in. Loads of nightlife too.

Lonelymum · 26/08/2004 12:58

E111? Is that needed for Crete? Easily got from the PO although I am sure you have loads to do.

tammybear · 26/08/2004 13:00

ive heard of that Knossos, and i was told we're between two towns who have very lively nightlife. hopefully ill get everywhere to see everything

tammybear · 26/08/2004 13:14

i have an E111 form and have my travel insurance thingy in my purse. im going into town this afternoon to get some extra things that you guys have suggested. Thanks! Anything other suggestions before I go?

Have a great time tammybear, and take care in the sun.

21stcenturygirl · 26/08/2004 13:58

Tammybear - glad to have made you laugh. Seriously, there was a survey about what people pack and tea bags was top of the list. You normally get that Lipton Tea stuff abroad so if you're a tea drinker (like moi) pack some PG Tips.

tammybear · 26/08/2004 14:16

Luckily Im not a tea person then 21stcenturygirl .

okay, so Im going to go boots in an hours time (hopefully, probably be left til tomorrow morning knowing me ) and Im going to buy some

mosquito repellant
underwater disposable camera (doubt my dad would want me to put his digital camera in the water)
painkillers
plasters
magazines
sweets (wont last the flight without them!)

anything else?

OP posts:
tammybear · 26/08/2004 15:03

oh actually just realised i could wait til im at the airport to buy all this. we're setting off at 5, and our flight isnt til 10.

earplugs, tweezers, anti histamines. Also I wouldn't bother with taking a bulky beach towel - just get one there , it'll only cost a couple of euros, then just chuck it at the end.

Branster · 26/08/2004 16:31

aloe vera moisturizer or gel for sun burns and water bottle for the flight. also selection of small toys/children magazines for the jurney, tissues, wet wipes, sunglasses, sun hat

Trifle · 26/08/2004 17:24

Tammybear, just a few thoughts. Knossos Palace is in Heraklion and great if you are a ruin fanatic. It's not too far from Stalis so journey would be ok. However, you do need a fantastic imagination to see how it might once have been as in reality there is very little left. The gorge that someone mentioned is Samaria Gorge which is at the far end of Crete over Chania way and approx a 2.5 - 3 hour coach journey from where you are. However, I have walked it and it was truly fantastic and suitable for those who are fairly fit and good trainers/walking boots are essential. Don't know how old your children are but wouldnt say it was suitable for the very young. No doubt you'll be roped into a Bouzouki evening of Greek dancing and local dishes. They're fairly bog standard herd 'em in kind of affairs and very touristy but ok if taken with a pinch of salt.
If you hire a car then try if you can to get up into the mountains where it is a different world from the beach resorts and more of the true Crete. If anyone mentions Vai beach where they (supposedly)filmed the bounty bar advert then ignore them as it is a load of commercial pap.
Anyway, without wishing to bombard you with too much info, hope you have a good time.

Chandra · 26/08/2004 17:27

Tammybear, and dont't forget to put everything that may remotely be considered a weapon in your check-in luggage (tweezers are part of this category )

tammybear · 26/08/2004 17:28

wow thanks for all that trifle, im going to have to write that all down! thanks for the suggestions branster but lucky for me, dd's staying with mum, so i have a child free holiday . probably be missing her like crazy though lol

OP posts:
tammybear · 26/08/2004 17:31

they consider tweezers as weapons?? that's a bit odd. god Im going to have to go through my hand bag now, see what other weapons Ive got in there
