Christmas day

We are looking to go away for Christmas day not in the Uk.

Where is open Christmas day? Where we could eat etc.

So far I have looked at Las Vegas. We go every summer but don't know if it will be the same without the blazing heat.

We have also looked at a few Euro cities such as Berlin and Barcelona. Barca maybe better in the summer though and oh says Berlin isn't as good as I think it sounds. Hmmm

Has anybody any ideas or Christmas day experience abroad?

Maybe for around 2k.

Christmas in New York is magical. Lots of restaurants open and Radio City Christmas spectacular normally has a few shows on Christmas Day itself. The Empire State Building is open until early afternoon and Top of the Rock is open all day. Also at Rockefeller Center, the ice skating rink is open all day, straight through to midnight on Christmas Day. We did our after-dinner walk in Central Park.

Christmas in Vienna is also lovely. Midnight mass is very atmospheric. Most tourist sites are open on Christmas Day and there might even be some concerts on. A good place to go is Palace Schonbrunn- tour the Palace- the Christmas Market there is open too! Schonbrunn Park is great for a long walk and the Residenz Restaurant does a good dinner.

Everything will be open in Hong Kong, and it should be warm enough to sit outside. It's festive but open Wink

Vancouver?

Another one to suggest Vienna. Absolutely magical at Xmas (and NYC goes without saying). I also agree with your DH that Berlin isn't all that. I used to live there and absolutely hate it, I always felt like it was trying to hard to be 'berlin' if that makes any sense at all.

I have spent a few Christmases in Vegas and it is much more enjoyable than it is in the summer, temperatures tend to be quite pleasant.

Christmas in Florida is an option if you like warm weather and there's plenty to do, bars and restaurants open etc

With a 2K budget I would look at European cities. Vienna would be worth considering.

Christmas in NYC can be great but it can be extremely cold with windchill and last year was a year in point. Visitor numbers really do climb massively too between Christmas and the New Year.

We spent one Christmas in Marrakesh. It was great. It was quite warm and everything was open. Obviously it is a way of slightly avoiding Christmas.
