Where is nice in December / January - not too far away or too expensive?

We've managed to get a week off work starting 29 December so are looking for something reasonably priced and not too far.

I know most of Europe will be chilly at that time of year so I'm looking for recommendations for places that will be pleasant at that time of year.

Maximum 5/6 hours flight.

What do you want? City / beach/ tour?

The 'frying pan' bit of Andalusia. We spent Christmas in Seville one year and it was lovely - light coat at most and sunny the whole time. Granada and Cordoba are in the same climatic zone, I think.

Andalucian cities as suggested above or Canary Islands, depending on whether you want Seville/Granada/Cordoba culture or a winter sun holiday with interesting things like volcanos, caves, boat trips, beach, watersports etc.

If you're going for a week from the 29th, try and make sure you're still there on the evening of the 5th January as that is Epiphany and the biggest part of Christmas in Spain, with the Three Kings Parades where 'kings' on camels lead a parade through the streets, throwing sweets into the crowd. We enjoyed it as a childfree couple, even though it is mainly for the children.

Thank you. I'll look into your advice and see what we can find.
