URGENT Virgin trains question

IlanaK · 14/06/2007 08:28

I have a ticket tomorow to travel and now want to travel earlier. I called them up and thtey can change my ticket but the cost is ridiculous - not the chrages, but the actual new cost of a ticket.

Anyway, what would happen if I just turned up for the earlier train? Would I be in trouble? Would I be able to get on? Or can I change the ticket at the station do you think or would it cost even more?

The problem with the discounted fares is that they only give out so many seats at that fair and when they are gone, they are gone.

Certaily changing it at the station won't be cheap. That said dh had a train booked last week on a cheap deal and missed it by 2 minutes as bank station was shut. He was given a ticket for the next train at no extra cost. But not sure whether it would have worked any other way.

I have been allowed on a train with a discounted ticket when I should have travelled on an earlier on.

I think it depends upon your reason

No good reason other than I would like to get there earlier.

It will depend on the train manager. I've seen them let people off (rarely) but most times they charge you the full fare again or ask you to leave the train at the next station. I wouldn't risk it unless you are prepared to pay the full fare. Alternatively, depending on where you are travelling from/to, look at an alternative route. Or if you have a return ticket, stump up for the full single fare going down .

Have a look at Megatrain They have cheapo prices for virgin services. Worth a look if they won't let you change.
