taxis & car seats in states

Does anyone know, are taxis in US like London black cabs (ie you don't legally have to have kids in car seats? Are going to Chicago for 3 days whilst in states & would be good not to lug carseats with us (will only need them for taxi to/from airport...

Depends on the laws in each state, but am pretty there are no exemptions for taxis or minibuses, as a rule. Most Americans just lug their seats with them onto the plane.

If you are staying in a hotel I would contact them in advance of your arrival and seek their advice. They may try to arrange that you are met on arrival to take you into Chicago.

Oh eck, we are going to the US tomorrow and the same applies to us hadn't planned to take car seat with us, but now I'm worried
