Have I missed the boat for best bargains?

Menorca. August 2019. EasyJet, BA and Thomas Cook all coming up around the £700 mark for 1 adult and two under 12s

I have no idea. Is that an ok price?

Is that just the flight price?

Oldowl · 07/10/2018 17:36

I have just booked flights for 5 days in Paris then flying on to Croatia for 6 days on the beach for £84 each for all 3 flights (Southend-Paris-Pula-Southend). July, school holidays.

If we had flown direct to Pula in July, that flight alone would have been £90 each.

excitedalready2019 · 07/10/2018 18:30

Thanks
So this time of year good to book?
It’s just for the flight. Total price ie inciuding hold luggage etc

I wish I’d got my ass in gear and booked on day they released.

Ok might just go ahead and book

oldowl how did you get such a good deal?! V impressed! Who is it with and is it main school hols ie last week of July (or private schools which is usually a bit earlier)?

Oldowl · 08/10/2018 18:16

Hi namechanged, we are flying with easyjet 18th-29th July. Flying to Paris two days later would be a couple of pounds more.

We have had some great holidays by finding cheap flights first then sorting out accommodation later. A couple of years ago we did 4 nights in Istanbul and 10 nights in Cape Town for less than £800 each for flights, accommodation (hotel in Istanbul and apartment with pool in Cape Town), car hire and a 2-day safari.

@Oldowl

I’ve just looked on easy jet and prices don’t add up to that now. Southend doesn’t fly to Paris on 18th. So I did 17th and it’s £39. And then Paris to Croatia is £64 and then Croatia to Southend on 28th (don’t fly in 29th) is £37. So>£130 per person.

Have they risen that much in last 24 hours? I’m going to have to move fast!

Oh and those prices not including any hold luggage at all!

excitedalready2019 · 08/10/2018 18:34

When you add in medium hold luggage of 23kg the price is around £200 per person for those flights. A fab deal. But not £84!

Just checked email:

You are right, I was a day out.
17th July Southend to Paris (£32) 1.35pm flight
22nd July Paris to Pula (£38) 2.30pm flight
28th July Pula to Southend (£14) 8.30pm flight

I booked the flights on 6th October at 12.40pm.

excitedalready2019 · 08/10/2018 19:40

Wow they’ve gone up!

No hold luggage though?

Yes, I thought it would have been early July, I don't think most state schools break up until later (26th here) but still a great deal.

Out of interest, do you book each flight as a one-way or do you book it as a multi-flight package with a single reservation?

Signing up to the Secret Flying emails is a good way to get alerts on bargains, sign up for both the flights from UK and flights from Europe mainland emails.

namechanged, I booked two single flights to Paris then clicked '+ additional flight' and added the one to Pula, then added the one back to Southend.

So all the flights were done on one transaction and each time it showed the lowest cost flights available around our chosen dates.

Oldowl · 08/10/2018 21:45

I booked direct using the easyjet website, but if you use skyscanner they will send alerts when prices go up/down.

namechangedtoday15 · 08/10/2018 21:48

Fab thank you Smile

BarbaraofSevillle · 08/10/2018 22:16

Think about how much hold luggage you really need. Unless you are taking sporting equipment etc, one 23 kg case plus hand luggage per person for a hot weather holiday should be plenty and should save £100-200 over having a case each.

GiantKitten · 08/10/2018 22:20

I'm not booking any flights until it's clear what's happening with Brexit Hmm

Wingedharpy · 08/10/2018 22:25

Me too GiantKitten.
I think it will be chaos.
Waiting for Easter to come and go as I think that will be the first testing time.
