I’d like to take DP away for his birthday, for just one night, but I’m not sure where! Ideally I’d like a nice country hotel/inn with great food, a good bar area and modern rooms. Failing that a recommendation for a compact friendly town where we can go out to eat and have drinks and everything is close together - we’ve been to Harrogate before and that was ideal but I’d like somewhere new. We’re going to a city for my birthday tomorrow so I want it to be a bit different for the next one, Smile

Where are you thinking roughly/ how far do you want to travel, lots of areas here (south coast) have a two night minimum stay at weekends which is a pain in the arse!

Had a fantastic meal at Northcote bear Clitheroe last week the rooms look amazing and the bar area looked good

Ludlow should fit your bill.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 05/10/2018 23:52

Ooh forgot to say, ideally within 1 1/2 hours drive of Nottingham as we’ll be leaving after work at 4pm Hmm. Ludlow is perfect we’ve been before, now if you could just move it a bit closer that would be great! Any ideas if somewhere similar in the midlands?

York is a lovely place to go for a weekend

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/10/2018 23:55

Stratford upon Avon?

MrsMoastyToasty · 05/10/2018 23:58

Chester is lovely and is compact. We walked (ambled) around the city walls in about an hour.

York is lovely but prefer not to go to a city, I need a mini York! Haven’t been to Stratford in years but could fit the bill I’ll have to look into it, same with Chester. A bit further than I’d like and although it’s a city it is small so more what I’m after.

Stamford, only an hour away according to Via Michelin!

AdaColeman · 06/10/2018 00:22

Stay at The George or at The Crown.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 06/10/2018 08:46

Stamford I know nothing about at all! I’ll have to do some research but could be interesting thanks
