On line check in

Last time we flew you still got proper tickets. This time we have to do online check in which opens 24hrs before our flights. We are catching two flights though, Glasgow to Gatwick/Gatwick to Orlando.

Does anybody know if I’ll be able to check us in on both flights at the same time? As the Gatwick to Orlando flight is about 4 hrs after the first one. Or will I have to book us into the Glasgow to Gatwick then go back on and check into the other flight later on when it’s 24 hrs before that one? Flying with BA if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance

If both flights are booked on 1 ticket then checking in online should do both flights at once I think, but it’s been a while since I last did it so I’m not 100% sure but am pretty confident.

Online check in tends not to work at all if you have an infant and/or if you have visas instead of an ESTA/US passport- both apply to me now so I have to go to the desk!

If it’s the same airline or code sharing airlines then you will be able to checkin all the way through meaning your bags will be put through to Orlando. You may be asked to pick up your boarding cards for the long haul in Glasgow or you’ll be issued both at the beginning of your journey.

I found it quite disconcerting when boarding a plane with the boarding card on my smart phone (what is it had run out of battery etc.) but it was totally fine & straight forward.

Enjoy your holiday xXx

Checkin will be for all hops when it was all booked as a single end-to-end travel.

Once you've checked in online you can print your boarding cards or have them saved on your phone - I usually take Screenshots so they're saved in my photos.
Are you sure you can't check in online until 24hrs before your flights? It's usually alot longer than that so maybe email the airlines and ask. X

BA is definitely up to 24 hours before your first flight. If you use the app you can get the boarding pass for all (connecting and return) flights at the same time.

That’s great thanks for that, it certainly makes it a bit easier to organise.

Now I don’t have a printer. Do I have to print the boarding passes out when I check in or can I check in, then print them out later on that day when I can get to a printer?

You should be able to check in now then print later. I regularly do this. Just go back to your account and there should be an option. If you have a smart phone, most airlines now have e-tickets so that you don't need to print them. They should be available on your phone eg email them to yourself or log onto your account on your phone or download the airline's app

You can get a mobile boarding pass via the app or check in but don’t get a boarding pass; either go back in and print it yourself later or opt to retrieve it at the airport.

If you're flying with a partner or kids with phones they can download the BA app & using the flight reference get their boarding passes on the app on their phones after you've checked in.Having the boarding passes on just one phone is a pain getting through the automatic gates & in Duty Free. The BA app is pretty useful & you can use it to spend your Avios (loyalty points if you join the BA Executive club - you are awarded these after a flight)on board - they just scan it.
