we are having building work done thsi autumn and will be renting a tiny flat until mid feb. any ideas where we could go to get lots of space this christmas - for ten days or so. I know we will lose it in a small flat in winter during the school holidays and i want to pre empt disaster. no family on either side who we can go to, sadly... (or not, given how family christmases so often turn out..!) Budget is limited...

Hi

I have friends who rented a youth hostel in Scotland last Christmas and had a great time. Quite a lot of family that wanted to get together but was very reasonable they said.

Maybe you could get part of a hostel or maybe some have separate lodges or something. I know there are some really good hostels out there with very uptodate facilities.

We went to Aviemore in Scotland a couple of years ago - it seemed quite reasonable, but depends on how many of you there are, and how much you usually spend on Christmas.
