Three days away with 11yo

I've got the chance to go away for a few days in October with 11yo DS.

Where would you go? Amsterdam? Copenhagen, Paris or a U.K. city?

We've done London, Edinburgh, Cornwall and Wales in the U.K. We've already visited Brussels and Bruges. I'd like to hop on a train/Eurostar and go somewhere new that has interesting architecture, museums and good ambience. Obviously it all depends on availability but where would you go?

Paris, easy journey, lots to see and do, loads of different styles of foods, some great shops, river boat trip, lots of places that an 11 year old will have heard of or know about.

If you want interesting architecture, go to Barcelona. You've got all of the Gaudi attractions and your DS might enjoy the Camp Nou experience www.fcbarcelona.com/tour/buy-tickets and Mount Tibidabo.

If you're only looking at train then it's Paris or Amsterdam? Out of the 2, I'd recommend Paris, lots to do and it's the more exciting city to visit (if you're a kid! I remember my parents taking me at age 10 - lots of museums & a canal trip - neither my sister or I liked it much. As a 21 year old though it was great!)

Both Amsterdam and Paris are fantastic cities to visit with kids. I spent two weeks in Amsterdam this summer and have blogged about it here: museummum.com/2018/09/28/top-10-things-to-do-in-amsterdam-with-kids/, and I'm just drafting a post on Paris. Having done Paris in October half term it is exceptionally busy, as it is Parisian as well as U.K. school holidays. We queued for well over an hour at the most popular tourist sites - and that was just to get through security, you then had to queue for tickets! That said Paris in autumn is beautiful, and you can book ahead / look at skip the line tickets.

Thanks for replying. I'm favouring Amsterdam ATM.

We've been to Paris with our two DC three times and it was fabulous each time. There is so much to see and do in Paris and the food is great. I've been to Amsterdam too, but IMO it's not as good for kids. There are some good things to do - boat trip, Anne Frank's house, lots of walking, etc - but Paris is MUCH better and if the weather is rubbish there's a lot more to do.

Barcelona is a lovely quick flight and if its warm you can get on a beach quite easily.

But do NOT go with Ryanair.
