Baby car seats in Italy

Hi
Does anyone know whether babies have to travel in car seats in Italy? If so does anyone know if taxi's ever come with them in major cities?

Just got back and no taxis we saw had them in I am afraid - we took DDs with us.

I'm living in Italy and I must say, I have never seen a car seat in use here, sorry.
