Stresa, Lake Maggiore

looking at Stresa, Lake Maggiore for 2 teenagers and 2 adults for 10 nights mid-Aug '19 .. any recommendations for BB / hotels (not too expensive, maybe £250p/night) as hoping to eat out every evening.

we've been big fans of "nice" AI but think the children are finally old enough to cope with being out each evening and finding somewhere new to eat.

Have found ridiculously cheap flights into Milan so far but making me dizzy trying to choose (Regina Palace Hotel comes up around £3k for us in 2 rooms and looks good for us) hotels as I've now looked at so many

Wouldn't you look at hiring a villa with pool there OP? Or does it have to be a hotel?

Stresa is lovely (great lake promenade) although does get very crowded in the summer - (we only visited on a couple of occasions and stayed in one of the Piedmont hill towns) but the Regina Palace did look lovely and nicely placed...if your hiring a car just make sure what ever hotel you choose has parking because we found parking a complete nightmare and some of the roads (in and out of Stresa) test driving skills.

Take some really good mosquito repellent too...

I went with my kids to Lake Maggiore mid August last year and stayed in Arona - a bit further down the lake than Stresa. We loved it - very pretty town with loads of places to eat and drink out, pedestrianised shopping street, lakeside promenade etc and boat trips up the lake to the islands. We stayed at an airbnb so worth having a look to see what you can find. Flew to Milan Malpensa then got a bus direct from the airport to the town - no need for hire car. We spent some happy days at a swimming pool a short bus ride up the lake from Arona - Lido di Meina
