Where to stay in Barcelona

Should we stay in a hotel or AirBnB? Our budget is around £200per day for two adults and 12 and 13 yr old children over October half term.
Which area should we stay in? We would like somewhere central.

We stayed in an apartment at the top of Las Ramblas which was pretty central. hated las ramblas itself as didn't feel safe but loved everything else. check opening times though of things you might want to see. www.homeaway.co.uk/p1050347
