Cottage recommendations please...

Hi. We'd really appreciate recommendations for close-to-beach cottages in Southern UK. Left it a bit late, probably, but we're hoping to get away for the two weeks from Sat 21st July.

Kids aged 6.5 and 2.5.

Failing the beach-side thing, somewhere rural and isolated with a short drive to a beach would be great.

Thanks...

I thoroughly recommend

WideWebWitch · 10/06/2007 19:26

cottages for you is good for availability search although it's not updated real time.

PavlovtheCat · 10/06/2007 19:27

including southwest? If so try
cottages .
We found a cottage there reasonbly priced, for our honeymoon in Sept. They might do late deals/cancellations.

Oooh, WWW, we spent a few days on the beach at Portholland and we saw this house there, right on the beach. What a location!!

Sickboy - if it's free, you'll be sorted - the beach is stunning and our kids absolutely loved it. It's a small bay, enclosed so you can let them run free and they are not out of your sight. Brilliant rock pools, the river runs right down the beach and into the sea so the children can run in it all the way down to the shore. Sea is shallow for a good long way and mine just loved running in and out of it all day, jumping the waves. It truly is brilliant.

Single track road all the way down to the house/beach is a bit hairy though!

Can recommend both WWW's and Pavlov's links, esp. Classic Cottages.

estate in Devon does fantastic places many of which have their own beach, either right by, or no public access. The Flete Estate owns a large amount of land in this area, including the coastal parts

PavlovtheCat · 10/06/2007 19:32

did not work, here you are

GDG, we stayed there last year, it's wonderful. The waves are crashing outside the window at night and the tide is out by lunchtime so there are rock pools and stuff. We picked mussells off the rocks and cooked them, it was wonderful. It's a really lovely house.

WideWebWitch · 10/06/2007 19:35

And 2 bathrooms; great linen and crockery, they will put your shopping away for you if you order it bfore you get there. Lots of games/dvds things to do. NO mobile signal, which was fantastic, it's a really getting away from it all location.

Gobbledigook · 10/06/2007 19:37

OH yes, I tried to call Jools from the beach but no luck

The beach is brilliant - we were staying at Tredethick but made the 45 min journey there 3 times last week! The boys loved it.

The house looks stunning.

Gobbledigook · 10/06/2007 19:37

Btw, wanted to ask you, what is the website for the 'big' houses/cottages - I think you stayed at one, it was quite expensive...

PavlovtheCat · 10/06/2007 19:38

littlelapin - not married yet! 21 sept. Got the dress, got the tiara, no shoes or underwear yet. Got the cottage, and permission for our reception there...its coming together...hijack over!

PavlovtheCat · 10/06/2007 19:39

GDG - I will save that one too for my own files. I looks great!

WideWebWitch · 10/06/2007 19:42

do you mean this one, The Big Domain?

Gobbledigook · 10/06/2007 19:43

I don't think so - I think you won a stay there in a MN competition.

WideWebWitch · 10/06/2007 19:43

Oh, OK, that's this one The Big Cottage in the Cotswolds.

WideWebWitch · 10/06/2007 19:44

what I thought of it here

Gobbledigook · 10/06/2007 19:44

That's it, thanks, will have a look!

Sickboy · 16/06/2007 14:45

Thanks for the help, folks. Everything I vaguely want is booked, though. Stoopid other people...
