Cascais, Portugal

Would Cascais have enough to amuse a family of 4, including 2 older teenagers (17 & 16), for a week in June? Worried it might be a bit quiet. We would visit Lisbon of course for a day or two. Any hotel recommendations?

Why not stay in Lisbon and do day trips to Cascais, Sintra?

Just thought Cascais would feel more beachy / holiday like - but that's a good idea thanks.

Love Cascais, so much so that i would consider buying something there.
Agree with pp though, stay in Lisbon and do day trips to Cascais.

We stayed in Cascais for May HT a few years ago. Would totally recommend it as a base. We visited Sintra on the bus, Lisbon a few times on the train, hired bikes to cycle to Giuncho beach and walked alon the promenade to Estoril. We stayed here overlooking the bay and literally strolled into town for most of our meals.

Cascais & Estoril have a good relaxed feel to them & I really enjoyed walking around the streets with the old fading rather grand houses overlooking the sea. I went years ago when I was young & single & while you probably don't want your kids going to them just yet there were plenty of bars & nightlife. The beach was fine if a bit busy. Like the PP, if you're staying a week I 'd base myself there & go into Lisbon.Sintra was pretty (if a little touristy) & easy to get too.

Also a massive fan of Cascais (would also consider a holiday home there too). The beach is nice and there are boat trips available plus hiring bikes - teens can have their space and wonder around the cafe area without any undue worrying..Lisbon is just a train ride away and visit to Sintra would also break up the week... (We stayed in Lisbon and I would have preferred to have stayed in Cascais- although we did enjoy the nightlife of Lisbon too).

Thanks all for your replies. Feeling encouraged that Cascais could be the place for us.
