Current security rules&regs - can I take this on board?

Off to France in a fortnight, flying from Manchester.

Have downloaded the current 'can have/ can't have' list, but it is not clear whether you can take food from home on board?

Was planning a mini-packed lunch for the kids to keep them occupied but would be quite cheesed off if it was chucked in the bin at security.

Anyone know the answer to this please?

Ta!

I'm not very sure either pacinofan, I am flying at the end of the week and have been through the liquids rule ad infinitum but I never gave food much thought, always use flying as a great excuse to have lunch in Costa or Starbucks. Do BAA have a phone number that you can use to ask specific questions?

pacinofan · 10/06/2007 13:29

Have just tried to contact the airport but keep getting recording messages to call expensive 0870 numbers.

I am betting that Cod is correct, you probably can't take butties and the like, though why is beyond me. The cynic in me thinks it's a big money-making exercise so we buy overpriced stuff airside.

Am stressed already at what to pack, has anyone done a definitive list of essentials for hand luggage please?!

We always do this. should be fine. But theres always the chance you'll get an over-eager BAA person who'll confiscate it.

I fly from Manchester 3 weeks ago and people were taking their own food through.

BeatrootandBenedick · 10/06/2007 13:40

think food ok jkust 100ml or over is a problem

Food is fine, my dd is allergic to peanuts, so we had to take a complete packed lunch for 7 hour flight, we had sandwiches, mini sausages(oops is that on mn banned list?) biscuits, fruit.everything, I checked with airline before flying and they said food is fine, there are just limits on liquid - so we had the drinks provided. Or you could buy juice/ water after going through security.

Thanks folks, will pack a mini-lunch for the kids, just to keep them occupied really if we face big queues or delays.

Looking at my suitcase, it looks like we are taking way too much anyway!
