Day/night out for 30th birthday (for a couple)

Potentially child free for my birthday night. What do people do for fun when they get a night off... Anywhere between Birmingham and Manchester/Liverpool.
Just want some ideas really, have no idea what to do, no concerts or sports events taking my fancy really

This is for the last weekend in September

If I was in your position, I'd spend the day at Alton Towers going on all of the rides that I can't with young children. Alton Towers now has a spa which you don't need to stay at the hotel for so I'd leave the park a bit early in time for a few treatments. Then I'd go to a nice restaurant before coming home!

Alton towers crossed my mind. Had 2 tickets last year but for that date but the weather was horrendous. Never done a spa I woukdnt know where to begin!! Would be up for something different though
