solo traveler to NYC - any tips?

I'm lucky enough to be going to NYC at the end of Oct. as my partner will be over there for work. He will obviously be occupied during the day so I'm looking for ideas of things to do on my own. Slightly nervous so would like to book on a walking tour or something so I don't just find myself wandering aimlessly!

Any recommendations?!

Food tours www.foodsofny.com/

I did both tours of Greenwich Village, the restaurants and cafes are really great. Tour leaders are funny and very knowledgeable. Really good value.

Bike the Big Apple was the highlight of our trip we did the two Brooklyn tours, Harlem and the Bronx.

Wander aimlessly. It's pretty hard to get lost in Manhattan and that's when you discover the side streets and neighbourhoods away from the main tourist areas and just take in the city. You can easily walk 10 miles a day just wandering around. Pull up Google maps and go for it. if you're a first time visitor, than head to Columbus Circle and the bottom end of Central Park, Times Square (noisy and busy but a must see), Greenwich Village (Bleeker Street), SoHo, Tribeca, Upper East Side, Upper West Side, Fifth Avenue if you like your shopping. Want to go further afield....walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and back, Wall Street / Financial District. Wander and explore it all, stop every so often to pop into shops, grab some food or just sit yourself at a bar for a glass of wine or a cocktail or a beer if that's your thing If not, Starbucks on every corner for coffee to sit and people watch for an hour. Enjoy!
