Mosquito repellant

Can anyone recommend a mosquito repellent for a 1 year old? Most of the ones in boots say 2+. There is only one I can find that is suitable from 6 months and it is a lower strength version.

Also, does anyone have experience of the mosquito repelling slap bands and whether they work of whether they are a waste of money?

Incognito is ok from 3 months, no Deet or any other chemicals. It works well and smells quite pleasant. Holland and Barrett do it.

Incognito is of course full of chemicals, effective for less time than deet but still nhs approved. glad to see that citronella is now rated only for the bin.

Mosi-guard. I travel to the Caribbean often, 1st time my children were 6 months & 3. Lots of mosquitoes! It's always worked well for us.

It really depends where you are going! If you're going outside Europe, particularly somewhere where there's mosquito diseases then something with deet would be the obvious thing - it's not recommended for under 2s though. We went to Costa Rica in the middle of the Zika scare & I went with an armoury! We all had the mosquito bangles & I sat watching a mozzie bite me on the ankle right next to the bangle! So they don't work but as part of an overall defence, probably don't do any harm. I've used Avon Skin So Soft & a Jungle deet free Citronella repellent & sorry they were useless! You can buy natural mosquito repellant shampoo & bodywash which we used, like the bangles using them probably won't do any harm. Mosi-guard have a natural baby safe stick with lemon eucalyptus oil which they claim is much more effective than citronella so maybe try that?

Incognito ingredients:

Alcohol, Aqua, PMD rich botanic oil (menthanediol), cinnamomum camphora (camphor) bark oil, citrus bergamia (bergamot) oil, linalool, limonene, citral. All blended together in a unique secret process. (Natural components of the essential oils).

I shouldn’t have said no chemicals, that was incorrect. Naturally derived chemicals?!

specialsubject · 15/09/2018 09:47

if you like. As usual the biggest chunk of ingredients is good old dihydrogen monoxide. but if you are going somewhere where the natural chemicals carried by mosquitos can kill, it is good that there is something near deet.

Mossie guard - available from amazon and suitable from 3 months. Used all over the world and it's excellent
