Hi everyone,

Me and my partner decided to TTC (trying to conceive) again and I came off of the pill around a month ago.

He has just surprised me with a Christmas holiday getaway to Jamaica!

I am super excited but now an worried about the potential ZIKI virus.

I know there was an epidemic a year ago....but am unsure of the risks now. I’ve been googling like crazy and very mixed advice.

I would appreciate any advice/opinions - Would you postpone TTC (trying to conceive) until after your holiday or does anyone have holidays booked/planned to these risk areas and still plan on going?

Thank you

Yes, I absolutely would postpone TTC. Although the risk is small it will be on your mind throughout your pregnancy and whilst there is no such thing as a no risk pregnancy no one ranks a holiday higher than their childs long term health. You need advice about TTC when you return because I think you have to wait several months before you do try just in case as it lives in the blood stream. Others will say risk it but personally it would spoil the pregnancy through worry for me. either go, have a great holiday and try 6 months after you return or change the destination and start ttc. good luck. The best advice is always on the dot gov websites so I would look at these and speak to your practice nurse/gp too.
