Sydney - how many days?

I am planning a little trip to Sydney with my husband and teenage son. We are going to go just after school breaks up in December, for three or four nights. We live in Perth, and none of us have been to Sydney, and will be staying in Surry Hills. WE want to do the major tourist stuff, OPera House, Bridge, the Harbour (maybe a boat trip) etc. Is the zoo worth a visit? What shouldn't we miss? And would three nights be enough or should we do four? Any tips much appreciated.

I did a trip with friends who lived in Sydney and 3 nights was enough for us.

There is a zoo, but did not visit, not my kind of thing (but was dragged along to the Australia Zoo). Did a boat trip quite enjoyed that but the Luna fair was ok just for a quick look around. Bit shopping which was just ok, went to Manly beach and had a lunch again nice to just have a wander about.

Then the usual other tourist stuff, my husband did the bridge climb and enjoyed that.

We were taken to the Kings cross area for a drink or 'cross' as its known as, quite a dark, dirty place but not as bad as I expected, not really somewhere I would go out of my way to visit.

Sure there are plenty locals who can give info .

Take the ferry from Circular Quay to Manly - that way you can do the bridge, opera house, boat trip, and one of the beaches in a single hit Grin

If you like zoos, then Taronga is a great one - the giraffes have the best view in Sydney
