Where to go in December - weekend with DH

Just that really...need inspiration on where we can go for 2 (max 3) nights away in December. We have been to Berlin (great) and Paris (great) but tend to do more active trips (biking etc) in the UK but fancy a weekend further away...

Have thought of Amsterdam but where else would be a good choice in cold weather?

DH's birthday hence the trip.

Prague is lovely (& cheap), think the Christmas Markets may be up and running by then. There are plenty of other cities with Christmas Markets but I haven't been.

I want to go to the markets in Frankfurt. Also, Munich is nice and so is Venice

Vienna or Salzburg

Belfast is getting great reviews currently and flights are so so cheap.

Really makes the most of the weekend if you aren’t travelling for hours and hours:

Also would recommend Edinburgh if you haven’t been.

I’d like to go to Rekjavik and Madrid. Barcelona is also nice in the winter

Bruges markets supposed to be one of the beat in Europe also

Lisbon is a fantastically lively and beautiful city. I went in December last year and it was warm enough in the day to sit outside and sunny a lot of the time, although chilly (not freezing though) at night.

A bit further away but convenient enough is Essaouira in Morocco.

We often go away in January and have had good short breaks in Rome, Prague, Madrid, Vienna, Budapest and Copenhagen.

We went to Lisbon beginning of D dem er (my birthday trip) and some days were nice, some days were so foggy you couldn’t see the end of the road and we had rain.

I would now always go for a Christmas market somewhere, Hamburg, Nuermberg, Rothenburg up der Tauber, Frankfurt (soulless city though), Bruges.
