Which Canary would you recommend

I haev just traded in my clubcard couchers for, wait for it, £615 worth of Cosmos vouchers which will pay for half of a cheapy holiday in the Canaries in October.

Me, DP, DS1 (2.5) and LO (4m) will be going. I have been to Tenerife a couple of times so we would prefer to go somewhere different. Most of our holidays are independent holidays so we don't really like over-commercial places. However we are quite happy (as we have done previously in Tenerife) to stay sc in a resort and explore the island with a hire car.

Which Canary and which resort would you recommend?

I haven't been to Fuerteventura, but I would recommend Playa Blanca in Lanzarote. It is the least commercialised resort (although quite a lot of building work going on). Very easy to drive around the island.

Have a wonderful time wherever you go!

I have found Lanzarote can be a bit dodgy weatherwise if you go off-season. Gran Canaria is usually better from that point of view.

Only been to Tenerife. We stayed near El Medano in the south and in Garachico in the north. Puerto de la Cruz was pleasant. Woyldn't stay in Playa de los Americanos or Los Cristianos, too many Sunday roasts on offer at the beach bars.

lanzarote.. playa blanca v nice. if you got to gran canaria, do not got to playa del ingles. it translates to something like beach of the english. it stink of puke from club 18-30 booze cruises

TheBlonde · 06/06/2007 22:27

Lanza is the best imho
Fuerte is just sand with nothing to do
GC is fine

lyrabelacqua · 06/06/2007 22:28

Blue canary in the alley by the lighthouse.

The great thing about Tenerife is that most people don't hire a car so you only have to go a couple of miles away from the truely hideous resorts to find miles of empty beaches and the stunning scenary that attracted people here in the first place.

Can you escape the masses in a simlar fashion in GC and Llanzarote?

A couple of votes for Playa Blanca - we thoguht it looked the best of a bad bunch from the brochure.

Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch
Who watches over you
Make a little birdhouse in your soul
Not to put too fine a point on it
Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet
Make a little birdhouse in your soul

Love it, love it, love it!

Playa Blanca is lovely, choose your hotel wisely.
