Anyone else got a list of holiday destinations they are really not bothered about visiting - even for free?

Mine includes:
Las Vegas - too bloody tacky
Florida - too humid
Norway - too many dark trees
China - pollution?
Australia - 22 hours in a plane? No thanks
Hong Kong - too humid
Madeira - too many people my age (old)
Iceland, which everyone raves about

Blackpool
Bali
Bondi beach

I have a theme going there...

ComeOnGordon · 27/08/2018 19:22

My teenage dd is not long back from Italy and her comments about Rome were “wouldn’t go back there - it was crammed full of tourists and disgustingly dirty”.

Janleverton · 27/08/2018 19:24

I never want to go back to Orlando. Or Dublin (just wasn’t keen but perhaps more to do with the company kept on the trip). Never want to go back to swaffham or dymchurch. Or langkawi.

The Pyramids. I'd love to see them as I imagine they should look like, apparently they're very disappointing IRL

makesummerlonger · 27/08/2018 19:26

Oh and I was so disappointed with Cuba.

ViserionTheDragon · 27/08/2018 19:31

Interesting thread with interesting answers!

I've lived in the Far East for many years and lots of places (China inc. Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand) are worth a visit. As for Australia, there are plenty of stopover cities to visit on the way ;-) Some of them I had absolutely no desire to visit at all when I was younger, but was pleasantly surprised at just how nice these places are. It definitely taught me to keep an open mind about various places.

Nurse12345 · 27/08/2018 19:38

Tenerife, awful grey, tacky and depressing.
Middlesbrough, as above but with less sun.

supercalifragilistic2 · 27/08/2018 19:42

Anything Disney based. I can't bloody abide that shit eating grin from that massive fuck of mouse. Oh and his girlfriend looks like a massive cow as well Angry

Also don't see the appeal of Dubai.

I would be interested in going to India, but I know someone who went and said its dirty, polluted and bloody stinks, so that's out for me.

Freshprincess · 27/08/2018 19:49

Anywhere cold. If I want cold, I can go to the lake district.

Middle East - I know I sound like My nana, but I don’t like the sound of any of it.

That said I haven’t been outside of UK for a holiday in years, so if someone else was paying I’d go anywhere.

Jaimx86 · 27/08/2018 19:56

Mykonos - I’ve never been so disappointed with a place I’ve visited.

TerfsUp · 27/08/2018 19:59

busloads of American teenagers.

Now, that's a shock. People being tourists in their own country.

Riotgrrrrrl · 27/08/2018 20:01

I really wasn't impressed with Barcelona and wouldn't bother going back.

I lived in Paris for a while and think it's a vile city.

I wouldn't go to Japan while they continue to kill whales. Shame though as it looks like an amazing country.

GreyGardens88 · 27/08/2018 20:03

UK seaside resort towns except for maybe Brighton and Whitby
Canary islands

GreyGardens88 · 27/08/2018 20:06

Sounds like you raised a snob there, was she not aware that she is a tourist herself? Rome is no more dirty than London or Manchester and full of the most interesting archaeological sites in the world Confused

onetimeposter · 27/08/2018 20:14

LOL@Teddy
I was always shit at geography. I mean proper big countries, not islands if that makes sense digs hole
AF i was thinking of going to blackpool for the lights.....

Loopytiles · 27/08/2018 20:21

Why was Paris “vile”?

Sadik · 27/08/2018 20:23

It's the best part of 30 years since I've been to Norway but it was absolutely fabulous, the most amazing place for hiking I've ever been and I suspect it hasn't changed much. Did have midges from hell though!

Whoever said Newcastle above - also many years since I've been there, is it no longer party central? I was only there a few times, and my memories are (perhaps unsurprisingly) a bit hazy but I'm sure I had fun...

I'm struggling to think of anywhere I've been that I would wish I hadn't (IYKWIM). Paris is shit on a low budget though, you definitely need to go there with a bit of cash to spend.

TomHardysNextWife · 27/08/2018 20:26

I really disliked Barcelona - it's always raved about on here. Same with Prague - the old part of the city was gorgeous but the newer centre was brash and tacky touristy. I'd have loved to have gone there 20 years ago.

AnnaMagnani · 27/08/2018 20:27

Rome and Madrid are amazing cities with loads to do! Just don't go in August, you will melt.

Brighton - Pavillion is nice but otherwise totally underwhelmed. Wandered around the Lanes wondering what I was supposed to be seeing and wasn't. Left v quickly.

goose1964 · 27/08/2018 20:30

The Costas, except Costa brava ,and I've been there or it would be included, South Africa, anywhere in the USA.

I've been to Bolton and it has a fab Italian restaurant.

n0ne · 27/08/2018 20:34

Dubai
Most of America
Anywhere with nothing but beach
Anywhere overrun by Brits Blush (I am one, to be clear)

onetimeposter · 27/08/2018 20:34

Know someone from bolton who said everyone was utterly pissed to be recategorised as greater manchester from lancashire c1995.
Went recently everything boarded up. Seemed very unloved. Shame as it has some good points.

BestIsWest · 27/08/2018 20:34

I wasn’t wild about Vancouver in 30 degrees - but I adored everything else about Western Canada especially the Rockies. Looking back it was the end of a very busy holiday and I think I was exhausted.

Adnerb95 · 27/08/2018 20:35

anna

Were you in the South Lanes? The North Lanes are where it's at in Brighton.

Tate Modern. Now that's 2 hours I won't be getting back Grin
