I stayed here with my teenager last year

I would recommend it. It wasnt massively luxurious, but it was comfortable, our room overlooked the main square, so it was really lovely to be able to open the windows and enjoy the atmosphere even if we were inside and still feel like we were in the middle of it. It was perfectly quiet with the windows closed even in august. I thought it was good value too. I would definitely stay there again. Krakow is brilliant

I am staying in an apartment in the Jewish quarter next month

It might have been my thread you saw. Search on my name.

I haven't managed to book a trip to Auschwitz-Birkenau yet. Any tips on that ?

MoorMummy · 27/08/2018 18:36

No AF, someone is supposed to be sending me a link to a trip website. I think there’s plenty of options. Is your apartment near all the main attractions.

I’m really looking forward to it. I will search your post and thanks Branleuse too.

Thanks moor Have a great time

I booked Auschwitz tour through my hotel, but there are places offering guided tours in several places we saw in streets off the main square.
Theres also the option to make your own way there and not have a tour, but I appreciated the tour guide who was sensitive and knowledgable.
It was unforgettable and something that has stayed with me.

I also recommend visiting the salt mines. I loved that more than I expected to, and also if you can get a trip to Zakopane in the mountains, its incredibly beautiful. If I went again though, id make my own way there by train and spend a couple of days rather than the tour

Hotel Jan was very good.
I recommend Pimiento as a restaurant

AnyFucker · 27/08/2018 20:07

We only have 2 full days so wanted to prebook the Auschwitz tour from the UK for our first morning. I don't fancy the evening we land having to schlep around looking to book a tour.

I had a recommendation but he isn't available that week. He said to try another particular company but they are not answering my emails Confused

MoorMummy · 27/08/2018 20:18

When you going, I’m waiting for someone to give me contact details for someone called Polish Bob 😂 who did them a private tour and was very good.

pretty much all the hotels will be able to book excursions for you at the desk.

AnyFucker · 27/08/2018 23:03

Not staying at a hotel, Bran

Branleuse · 27/08/2018 23:09

In the main square there are always people around offering tours too. Honestly, im rubbish at that sort of thing, but it was super easy in Krakow. Helped too by the fact that pretty much everyone under 40 speaks english to some degree

AnyFucker · 27/08/2018 23:12

We will sort it, I'm sure

MuttsNutts · 27/08/2018 23:18

We are going in October and staying here in the Old Town.

I have booked a full day tour to Auschwitz/Birkenau and then the Salt Mines in the afternoon with this company. They collect you from your hotel lobby and return there at the end of the day.

AnyFucker · 27/08/2018 23:36

Will look at them, Mutts

Hi
We were in Krakow last year for a short weekend :-) . We stayed in Wyspianski hotel (close to Old Town). We went to the Salt Mine and Auschwitz booked via this company also we visited Jewish quarter and Schindler museum with a freewaliking tour. It was a good time and hope visit again in the future :-)
