I thin you need a passport.

Mercy · 05/06/2007 12:27

SHe will need one to enter the UK

LIZS · 05/06/2007 12:31

technically she is probably correct (remember hearing of something similar on the radio regarding Spain when the Heathrow alert was on) but I seriously doubt that Immigration will accept it, assuming the airline even take the risk to carry her, and I'm not sure I would iiwy. Why can't she get another one there must be a Slovakian Embassy in Athens?

Mindles · 05/06/2007 12:33

I think you still need a passport to enter or leave the UK. You can travel using an ID within Europe if I remember correctly, but not to/from the UK.

My Dh can travel using his Italian identity card to and from the Uk no worries.

LIZS · 05/06/2007 13:14

but would you entrust your kids to someone who can't look after their passport ?

OhNo40 · 05/06/2007 13:24

Try phoning the airline to see if they will accept her without one. Having watched queasyjet on TV a few times it seems that some things are at the airline's discretion. I know some other EU countries have ID cards which they have to carry all the time and have all the same kind of info on them as passports. Come to think of it, if we ever get ID cards maybe we won't need to spend ever increasing amounts on passport renewals.

NannyL · 05/06/2007 15:31

As far as im aware people who live in the EU can fly to and from anywhere within the EU so long as they have offical identity (which in the uk could be our photo driving licenense)

Budababe · 05/06/2007 15:35

I THINK she should be ok but am not 100% sure. Why not phone immigration and ask?

Do let us know what happens - I've been tempted to turn up with my photocard driving licence and see what happens for domestic flights. I wouldn't like to try it going outside of the UK though.
