It's for me and my daughter (14) on a trip to Paris. I have the money but not loads so it's this or extra spending money

No. It's not worth it, it's a short journey and the standard seats are perfectly fine. Paris is expensive, use your money there.

No, I did Eurostar 1st class once (because it was bizarrely cheaper) and all it meant was wider seats and airline quality free food. Spend the money on a nice picnic or a drink in the champagne bar at St P if you want to feel luxurious.

That's interesting about 1st class being cheaper, I need longer leg room, is there much difference.

I travel on eurostar three times a year and i have never known first class to be cheaper (although i have known it on a tgv a couple of times) - i suspect standard must have already been really expensive for first to be cheaper.

But, if you book with eurostar directly you can choose your seats - if you need more legroom, you could switch your seat to a table seat (even better if are travelling with the person opposite you, as then you can stretch into each others' half with impunity!).

Thanks everyone. I'll take the advice.
