Canvas or Eurocamp not too far

Hi All,
We are very inexperienced travellers, and have only been to Cornwall for hols with relatives, due to finances, over the last few years. But I am last minute hoping to find week at a Canvas or Eutocamp type holiday for this late August.
There is a lot of availability, but would like to get some advice from you seasoned holidayers, as photos and description on the companies website can be deceiving. It is a big deal for us, so would like to find somewhere that is clean, pretty and not too full on.
Our child are 12 and 14.
We would be traveling from the UK by ferry or Channel Tunnel and hopefully not need to drive more than two hours from the port.
Any advice on a pretty area and site greatly appreciate!
I’m also looking for work in the Horsham area- if anybody know of anything going 😊.
Thank you All.

Check out duinrell in Holland. Easier to get to if you get the overnight ferry to the hook of Holland but not bad from calais.

Landal sites are good too, as are the European center parks

Last week of August is usually cheaper as most Europeans are back at school then.

Thank you very much!
That’s very helpful- will check them out.

I agree Duinrell in Holland is fab. Nearer to 3or4 hrs drive from Calais but there are plenty if places to stop along the way/other ways of getting there (it's not too far from Amsredam and quite a few fly there). You have free access to the theme park, which in late August will prob be quite quiet if the Dutch children have gone back to school. There is also an indoor water park on site. You have to pay extra for this but it is discounted for anyone staying on site. You can stay all day in the water park and can even take your own picnic in! Just down the road is a lovely sandy beach and you aren't too far from Amsterdam either. Holland is very child friendly and we didn't have a language barrier because everyone on site spoke English.

Duinrell it’s great.

Needsmorebeans · 14/08/2018 16:17

just got back from Duinrell and it is brilliant with lots to do but 3 - 4 hours from Calais as others gave said. Berny Riviere is more like 2 - 3 hours and you can get to Disneyland Paris and Asterix Parc from there. It also has a lot to do for older children on site too.

We were at marjal costa Blanca in July and loved it. The pools are absolutely heaven one feels like you are in Hawaii! The elite home was amazing. Would definitely recommend.

ShesABelter · 14/08/2018 16:20

Sorry ignore that you couldn't get a ferry I don't think, we flew and had booked a hire car.

HeyMacWey · 14/08/2018 16:38

@shesabelter - I've been looking at that campsite. Do you think you could manage without the need to hire a car? I've seen they do a shuttle bus to the beach, but tbh we'll probably just be by three pool most days.

ShesABelter · 19/08/2018 12:22

We never had a car. Taxi to the supermarket is ten euros return and Dave the Europarc guy runs you and waits an hour to pick you up. We did a huge shop for six of us and it was 200 euros. There's loads of day trips advertised outside the Europarc office but we never left the place as the pools are amazing. We had bbqs every night with salad and one night had meatballs and spaghetti.

The supermarket on site is really reasonable as well and well stocked so we topped up every day on fresh baguettes and water.

We stayed in Guardamar for one night before going and the beach is gorgeous. Had we not done that we'd of maybe gone for the day.

That all sounds fabulous! A definite possibility for next year.
