Honeymoon - Réunion and Mauritius

Well, i!t ooks like our dream of honeymoon in the Maldives isn't going to come true as it's just sooooooo expensive. The travel agent has instead recommended a Réunion-Mauritius combo (1 week on each). DH is delighted as he's always fancied visiting Réunion, but I wanted a relaxing tropical paradise snorkeling with little fishies (I know). Will I find this on the Mauritius part of the trip?

Reunion is AMAZING.

We did a Reunion-Mauritius combo for our honeymoon years ago. Yes, we did do some coral reef snorkling with little fishes on a boat trip from a resort on the north side of Mauritius. It was lovely, and the resort was lovely, and it was all very honeymoonish. I don't really have any complaints about the Mauritius section at all.

Reunion blew me away, though. It was just so dramatic and varied - the cirques were all amazing, and I wished we'd had time to hike down into the cirque de mafate instead of just peeking into it from a viewing point on the edge. The volcano was an absolute highlight - I still remember driving round a corner from pretty alpine-type countryside and looking out over a vast, black plain. It was like we'd suddenly entered Mordor.

We spent NO time on beach resorts on Reunion, so I don't know how they'd compare. I'd be tempted to check them out now, though.

Mauritius is definitely tropical beach paradise. We did an underwater walk in Grand Baie in the north. That's where a lot of the established hotels are but the developments in the south are amazing. Take a look at Heritage. There's 2 next to each other which allows you to use all 7 restaurants. For honeymoon I'd say look at the Telfair but Awali is just as amazing.
